Guided Tour through the largest dye collection in the world
Nowhere in the world is it as colourful as at the Institute for Organic Chemistry of the TU Dresden. For this is home to more than 8,000 samples in the largest dye collection in the world. Four hundred samples alone of natural dyes are stored on the shelves of the collection: the glowing red colour of the Madder root or the pointed shells of the shellfish, of which one once needed 40,000 to dye the Pope's robes or the famous indigo which provides the blue dye with which genuine jeans are still finished off today.
