Modern Knowledge Transfer, Inspirational Ambience

Dresden is an extremely dynamic and internationally significant business location and centre of science and research - of the past, the present and the future. Two of the key technologies of the 21st century, nanotechnology and biotechnology make up, together with microelectronics, the city's future-oriented fields of competence. They are the basis of decisive growth and development impulses for Dresden. With state-of-the-art production plants for Infineon and Globalfoundries the city is Europe's leading microelectronics location. With 80 of the 500 companies nation-wide Dresden is also Germany's centre for nanotechnology and thanks to a pharmaceutical industry with a long tradition also one of the most important locations for biotechnology. In addition to companies such as GlaxoSmithKline and the Menarini Group many smaller companies in this sector have established themselves in Dresden.EADS, the world's leading aerospace company, made Dresden into a competence centre for converting Airbus passenger aircraft into freighters.

With eight universities, three Leibniz Institutes, three Max-Planck Institutes and twelve Fraunhofer Institutes Dresden has a high density of research facilities. In 2011 The Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf will become a Helmholtz Institute. The intensive co-operation between commerce and science provide many points of contact for conferences and congresses.

In Dresden science and art, tradition and innovation are not contradictory, but rather form a unique symbiosis.
